ABOUT US

THE ESTATE

On a bright winter afternoon, we first walked up Nyéki Mountain to see the estate.
We fell in love at first sight. This happened in 2013, we still love it, we all love it. We had a big dream to have our own vineyard in the Szekszárd wine region one day. In the “wine region”, which is so dear to our hearts, because before that we had made great wines many times from grapes harvested from this wine region, only in the Mecseknádasd cellar row. Here on Nyéki – hegy we have been admiring the sunrise for 10 years, excitedly watching the development of the newly planted grape varieties and making our wines with great devotion and love.
From the vine to the table – we follow the journey of the wine being made with extreme attention every day and are happy to tell you about it. We love the wood, the smell of the new barrel, every finished bottle is our child – equally dear to our heart. We would like to pass this on and show our guests who come to us on our vineyard, in the Szekszárd wine region, on the Nyéki mountain, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, with premium wines and heartfelt hospitality.

QUALITY AND TRADITION

Our journey began in 2013 when the Garai family purchased the first 1.5 hectares on Nyéki Hill. The vineyard combines older Kékfrankos plantings with newly planted Cabernet Sauvignon vines. After over ten years of hobby winemaking and numerous awards, we finally had the chance to craft wines from our own hand-tended grapes, right here in the beloved Szekszárd region.

The small size of our winery and cellar ensures that every wine is truly artisanal. We are gradually expanding our vineyard by acquiring neighboring plots, with a long-term goal of reaching five hectares. Alongside Syrah and Merlot, we planted Cabernet Franc and Kékfrankos in 2020. In collaboration with nearby wineries, we also envision creating a wine route that celebrates the region’s heritage.

We are also proud members of the Szekszárd Bottle Community, actively working with Kékfrankos, Bikavér, and Kadarka, preserving traditional local varieties and showcasing the authentic character of the Szekszárd terroir. Our aim is simple: produce handcrafted, top-quality wines while honoring the reputation and traditions of Szekszárd.

THE NEXT GENERATION

Ákos Garai:
When I began my studies in viticulture, my father gifted me a quarter-hectare plot in Mecseknádasd that had lain fallow for years. “Work it, my son, and make excellent wine from it,” he said.
Those early years were tough, but I learned more than I could have imagined. Since 2020, I have been working with the family here on Nyéki Hill, bringing a love for youthful, fresh, and fruit-forward wines, and embracing every new challenge. Together, we aim to craft local, traditional varieties at the highest level, from grapes grown in our own vineyards.

GROWING AND DEVELOPING

In 2014, a LEADER grant allowed us to renovate the historic press house, expand the winery, and enhance hospitality. Next to the 1883 Sárközi press house, we created a terrace that blends naturally into the landscape — perfect for intimate tastings or larger groups.

In 2018, we added a 30-meter cellar wing. By 2022, we had completed a modern tasting room, keeping the charm and history of the original press house while meeting contemporary needs.
